This week, I am showing you the power of the Roth IRA.

In it, I will show you:

  • Why a $7,500 contribution matters

  • How you can contribute even if you are a high earner

  • What contributing for 16 years has turned into in my Roth IRA

So Now What?

It is a story as old as time.

Let yourself go back to the 6-year-old version of yourself.

Now imagine you are in the weeks leading up to your Birthday or Christmas.

You asked for that one toy that you just had to have.

The anticipation of waking up every day (before opening the present) was everything.

Then the day finally comes…

You open the present, full of excitement, tear the packaging to shreds, and start playing with it.

  • A day goes by.

  • A week goes by.

  • A month goes by.

Pretty soon, that cool toy is just another toy, it sits in the corner, and from time to time you reach over and play with it.

The inevitable question comes into your head, “Now what?”

Now ask yourself, did you get more joy in the anticipation of the present or from the present itself?

Well, for me, it always felt like the lead-up provided more joy than the toy itself.

Today, I want to talk to you about how getting to “money levels” is much the same way.

I want to show you how many of us spend our lives stuck at the pump.

Let’s dive in…

Stuck at the Pump

Nearly everyone I speak with has similar “money levels”.

We all start with next to nothing as kids, and just getting money to buy gas is a win.

Then we start working, and the goal is to be able to live on your own.

Then we start to see what others have, and think I want to have that life.

Then we start to think, I wonder what it would be like to have (name the number) in my bank account.

Then we start to dream about what it would look like to be “financially free”.

Then we become “financially free” only to tell ourselves we really aren’t because someone else (in real life or internet land) has more.

  • We then subsequently keep working.

  • We then subsequently move the goalposts.

  • We then subsequently do this for so long that we always trade time for money.

It is like stopping for gas on a road trip and standing at the pump for decades.

Yeah, no one would ever do that…right?

Well, for many, we do this with our money, and here are the two reasons why…

Lack of Clarity

We are constantly seeing what everyone else “has” and never spend anytime thinking about what we actually want.

Spoiler Alert ~ What others are doing with their money should have zero effect on what you do with yours.

Lack of Planning

We spend so much time wondering, “if we have enough,” and so little putting an action plan in place.

Imagine you filled up your gas tank, but got in the car and your gauge didn’t move.

So you drove the next part of the trip just hoping you didn’t run out of gas.

That is quite literally what many of us do with money.

So as we start the new year, I am challenging you to make a change (if you are in this situation).

Find your team, find your clarity, find your planning.

Money is fuel for your life.

Life is not lived at the gas pump.

Until next time my friends!

A Money Question

If you could change just one thing about your money, what would it be?

You don’t need to be focused on ten things; start with one.

I’ll start ~ To be more intentional about how I spend my time in relation to money.

Said another way ~ My time will be spent on the things I prioritize, not the things that could bring in the most money.
