My latest is a throwback to an older video that covers the biggest mistake I see in building wealth ~ Buying Too Much House.
I break down:
Costs Involved
Things to Look Out For
How To Think About the Numbers
and so much more to make sure the biggest purchase of your life isn’t also your biggest regret.

“We Can Spend More?”
My wife, Kristin, has a degree in early childhood education.
She loves kids.
I mean, loves kids.
You know what she doesn’t love?
Talking about our finances…
I think she would rather get up with a newborn than see me open a spreadsheet.
Now look, it isn’t that she doesn’t care or know what is going on.
It just isn’t her thing.
In the 11 years we spent as a client of financial firms, she never felt like those meetings were “for her”.
Yet after a few years and some convincing, she came to one of our financial team meetings.
She listened, asked a few questions, and left with this realization…”So, we can spend more?”
I couldn’t help but laugh, after all I did ask, “What was your biggest takeway?”
You see, Kristin and I's situation isn’t unique.
In fact, most of the time, there is a “CFO Spouse” and a “Non CFO Spouse”.
Today, I want to talk about the value of having your partner involved in financial conversations.
Let’s dive in…

It’s Not About You
My role as an advisor to clients is simple.
To guide them to make great financial decisions.
Yet what most people get wrong is that they think the only answer to those decisions comes from a spreadsheet, formula, or some hard and fast rule.
It doesn’t…
It comes from a combination of their situation today and what they envision their situation to be like in the future.
You then mix in personality, risk appetite, family situation, and a whole host of other things Excel can’t calcuate.
Then and only then can you get your answer.
So, now consider trying to come to that answer without your partner/spouse in the room.
Ya…
It ends up like this ~ One person making all the financial decisions and the other preferring to do a 2 AM feeding than look at a spreadsheet (trust me I know).
So instead, you need to empower the “Non CFO Spouse” (probably the one not reading this newsletter).
At Moment, we do this by ensuring everyone is in each conversation.
In fact, I joked with a client last year that if his spouse didn’t come to the next meeting, he would need to find a new advisor.
Yet in all seriousness, that is how important I view it.
You can’t make team decisions without all the players.
You see, when I thought about my financial team, it was as much about having someone Kristin could go to as the tactical decisions we were making.
They were my backstop.
So while Kristin’s takeway from that first meeting was “we could spend more” mine was peace of mind knowing she had a team to call.

A quick lesson on market timing.
Remember a month ago when the market was crashing.
Tariffs were the front-page story.
Well, nothing has actually been resolved.
Yet the market has quietly rebounded.
Remember my friends, time in the game wins.
Until next time!

A Money Question
How do you and your partner discuss money?
The goal is for everyone to feel educated and empowered. They don’t have to be the expert but they do need to understand what is going on.
